Training 101

Probably one of the most overlooked things about training is how to start. Most people want to jump in full bore. Trust me I’m one of those all or nothing types of people. But what usually happens to most is that you make these unattainable goals. Lets say you haven’t been in a regular workout regiment/schedule in years. Now you are ready to jump in and start. What do you do? You tell yourself that you are starting on Monday and you will be in the gym everyday. So you punish your body with this strict regiment that is so hard to keep up with and week number 1 you’re already burnt out. Then you quit. Life gets in the way and you tell yourself that you’re too busy. That it’s not for you.

Instead what you should have done is tell yourself that you are starting this new healthy lifestyle. Commit to going to the gym twice a week for a month. Then once you have met your twice a week goal for a month increase it to 3x per week. Maintain that for 4 to 6 weeks. Couple your workout regiment with a healthy eating plan. Once again start small there as well. If you change everything cold turkey you will quit and fail and start the cycle all over again.
